Christmas Lights in November

It’s okay to start Christmas decorating before Thanksgiving.  I live on latitude 58.812 so it’s dark in November.  Sunrise is around 8am and sunset is around 3:30 in the afternoon.  When it’s clear weather, which is rare, you can depend on about 7.5 hours of daylight in November BUT, we live in the Tongas National Rainforest, which means a clear day is rare.  Usually you can’t tell the difference between day and night because of the low cloud covering and on these days the more light the better.  It seems I’ve heard or read somewhere that Christmas shouldn’t come before Thanksgiving, and I totally agree, however, when you live in a rainforest in Alaska, bring out the lights and Christmas stuff is a matter of mental survival.  A brightly lit tree brings cheer to a room.  Christmas lights outside make the town look bright and happy and they help the weary traveler find his/her way.  When do you put your Christmas stuff up?
