Winter Clothes in Alaska
11/20/24
What about kids’ internal temperature. Living in Petersburg, Alaska means wearing layers in the winter and hats and mittens are a must to go outside. It’s all I can do to brave the cold and wind to get groceries and run errands. The cold and wind doesn’t seem to effect young people. They walk around in crocks without socks, short sleeves and no coats. What! You can tell the age of people in our town just by looking around on a cold day. Middle school kids think it’s summer all year, high school age kids might throw a sweatshirt over their t-shirt, young adults have learned to wear coats but not how to button or zip. When people become parents they generally have a better idea of how to stay warm because they are focused on making sure their kids are warm when they are outdoors. This time of year I have to plan an extra 10-15 minutes to get ready to go outside. Do you have to wear warm clothing in the winter?
