Organize
Quilters generally have a stash, lots of lovely fabric for future quilts, and this lovely mass will need a place to live. I took a class in the late ’80’s to learn how to build my stash with fabrics in every color and variety. I loved building my stash but since I was a working mother, I rarely had time to use it but there it sat, on the shelf looking lovely. I have since purged the soft mauves and large florals and yes, I have replaced them. I actually had an Etsy fabric shop in the early 2010’s that has since closed because the cost of shipping fabric to Alaska became prohibitive. I still have fabric from that shop along with fabrics from prior stashes.
Quilting requires lots of equipment and supplies for example, machines, thread, ironing boards, rulers, pins, needles, scissors, rotary cutters, the list goes on. The more sewing I did when I retired, the more equipment and gadgets I needed. As I acquired more stuff, I needed to arrange my space to accommodate it. Having limited space, I really had to be creative when organizing for easy use. Over the years, I have arranged and reorganized my space lots of times. I have purchased different kinds of containers, organized items differently on the shelves and in the containers and etc., and every time the space has become better for creativity and productivity. The more things you acquire for your sewing hobby, the more you have to arrange and rearrange to make them fit. Arranging and organizing your sewing space is fun because you find things you haven’t seen for ages, you get rid of things you don’t use any more, you find new ideas for projects. All kinds of good comes from going through your stuff occasionally.
